This is an encore production of the popular pearlescent-grey DK/sport-weight yarn spun for us last year by Mendocino Wool Mill in Ukiah, CA, from the fleeces from our Romney ewes Scout and Maureen. This year’s yarn is a very similar color, with a beautiful pearlescent sheen and a lovely hand. It is a natural light grey with a hint of lilac, 2-ply, 276 yards per 4 oz skein. I had a discussion with Sarah when I picked up the yarn, about how the long-wool breeds like Romney spin up to a finer yarn at any given weight. So, while this is DK weight if you are going by yards/pound, it is finer in diameter than is typical of DK. I’m calling it sport-weight and shifting the gauge, and I think it will work well in patterns from fingering to sport. Gauge: 5-7 stitches/inch on size 3 to 5 needles.
