This DK-weight yarn was spun for us by Mendocino Wool Mill in Ukiah, CA, from the fleeces from our Romney ewe Pearl and her boyfriend Chuck. I mordanted the yarn and dyed it to a lovely gold with coreopsis flowers grown in our garden. 2-ply, 284 yards per 4 oz skein.
A note about gauge: Sarah at the Mendocino Wool Mill, that spins this yarn, recently explained to me that the long-wool breeds like Romney spin up to a finer yarn at any given weight. So, while this is DK weight if you are going by yards/pound, it is finer in diameter than is typical of DK. It will work well in patterns from fingering to sport. Gauge: 5-7 stitches/inch on size 3 to 5 needles
