This natural-white worsted-weight yarn was spun for us by Mendocino Wool Mill in Ukiah, CA, from a trio of fleeces carefully selected by Sarah Gilbert, the owner and yarn-designer at Mendocino. Sarah started with the fleece from Frieda, a “Friedale” (half Corriedale half East Friesian) for its fine crimp that would yield a fluffy yarn. But Frieda’s fleece had a matte finish, so Sarah added the fleece from Goldrush, a “Romnesian” ewe (half Romney, half East Friesian) to bring a lovely sheen to the final yarn, and finished with the fleece from Dale, our Corriedale ram, for softness. She chose a worsted-weight yarn to be softer with more air, and 3-ply, to lend the yarn a roundness.
This yarn is a natural creamy white, 3-ply, 200 yards per 4 oz skein. Gauge: 4 – 5 stitches/inch on size 7 to 9 needles.
