My cousin Linda comes from Idaho every year for lambing, and this year’s road-trip was more grueling than most, because a huge winter storm had closed Donner Pass in the Sierras, and all of the other passes north and south of there. Linda started out from Salmon, Idaho, on Friday, March 1st, and made it to Winemucca, figuring she would drive on to Boomtown and be right in line to head over the pass when it opened. But the news was grim, with almost unbelievable amounts of snow forecast for the coming days.

As lambing began and got busier, I was texting with Linda, trying to figure out how–and when–she would get here.

Linda said all she could think was “I’m NOT going to turn around and go home!” So…she drove all the way to Barstow in Southern California on Saturday the 2nd, and then yesterday finally arrived at the ranch. Three 8-hour days of driving. Linda, we are so glad you are here! It wouldn’t be lambing without you!
