Yesterday was a slow lambing day, but the highlight of the day was a visit from the entire staff of MALT, the Marin Agricultural Land Trust. MALT holds a conservation easement on our ranch and I consider them partners in our work–their stewardship staff are important advisors for us on everything from invasive weed management to carbon farming practices. It meant a lot to me to be able to host the whole MALT team and tell them a little bit about how we run our operation. And it was a beautiful day for a visit to our mothers and lambs.

I was eager to bring everyone into the lambing barn to meet our new Moorit Romney ewe lamb, Cocoa. She was a big hit.

We headed out for a visit with the mother ewes and their lambs out on pasture.

We ended up in my former creamery, where I now store my raw fleeces, lambskins and yarn, so I could show them some of our yarn, and fleeces like this lustrous grey beauty from Lulu.

It was a great day, and I’m so grateful to Jennifer for organizing, and to the MALT for their interest and advice in all that we do.
